Home Fitness Testing Guide

What to Test

Topend Sports has over 120 fitness tests, which can be categorized many ways. Test areas include Aerobic Endurance Tests, Strength & Strength Endurance, Speed and Power (Anaerobic Power), Anaerobic Capacity, Agility, Anthropometry, Flexibility, Balance, Coordination, Reaction Time, Health Related and Questionnaires, as well as many sport specific tests. A testing session may include tests from each of these categories, or just a selection of the most relevant tests.

Deciding which tests to include can be daunting. Factors to consider are whether there are standardized protocols, and comparative data to rank your results, the test relevance to your activities, reliability of the tests, and access to the equipment required to do the test.

The Home Fitness Test Manual has taken the 10 common test categories and selected a test for each of these that can be done at home by yourself, using equipment that is available around the house. This is a simple and inexpensive way to get a comprehensive fitness test.
